For this SNHU project, I was provided with a version of the newsletter that included all the content and the grid structure but needed to be reworked.
Zumiez Newsletter
The Journey
This was the original newsletter provided by SNHU. There is a lot of unused space on the first page, elements to do not align to elements in close proximity, inconsistent styling of sub-headers, widows within the body copy, and the body copy creates very choppy shapes.

Below is the version I created:

Rationale
The target audience includes those interested in skateboarding, which tend to be very spunky and energetic individuals. The goal of this project was to bring order to neon chaos, which meant finding a balance between the energetic style and the need for organization. I achieved this by using the same header style (neon shadow), adding organization and alignment to the structure, and making use of all the space.

Organization and alignment were achieved by limiting the number of circular elements to only the head of Danny on page 3, creating square elements, cutting out unnecessary visuals, and justifying the body copy. The content is clearly segmented to allow for easy recognition of different content areas and the elements within the areas are aligned to one another within a clearly defined box. These factors help to not only guide the viewer’s eye but also to lessen the strain required to engage with the content.
